Christmas Party 2014

Saturday 13 December 2014 - Filed under Events

Although missing our Chairman Jerry and his lovely wife Carole, currently on their way to New Zealand, we had a very enjoyable time today and were particularly grateful to Councillor Mick Stanley, Mayor of Ripon, for offering to act as compère in Jerry’s absence. Jerry had thoughtfully provided Mick with a selection of corny jokes, which he supplemented with quite a few of his own.

The first part of the morning was taken up with a choice between decorating Christmas biscuits with Sue, playing table tennis, warming up for the pool competition under Tim’s watchful eye or just chatting and making the most of the refreshments.

Once again, we were very happy to welcome mayoral parties from Boroughbridge and Pateley Bridge as well as Ripon to join in the festivities. They sportingly agreed to act as judges for Rap’s Got Talent while the Mayoress of Ripon, Gill Stanley kept the score for us.

Our old friend Joy Rayden had brought along her guitar and led us in some carols as a prelude to the competition, after which members took it in turn to play, sing, dance and read poetry.

Rebekah won the Margaret Cawthorne trophy, having danced alone and also with her brother Ben.

Oliver retains the pool trophy.

After thanks and applause for everyone who had helped RAP in anyway throughout the year, the party finished with a rousing chorus of We Wish You A Merry Christmas and we’d like to wish the same to anyone who reads this post on our website.
