Summer Outing 2016

Sunday 10 July 2016 - Filed under Events

Our summer outing this year was to the Yorkshire Air Museum on the site of the former RAF Elvington. The weather could have been kinder, but there was plenty to see and do.

A friendly volunteer steward gave us a talk about the history of Elvington, particularly the heroism of the men and women who served there during World War Two. Afterwards, we were free to explore in small groups. Most of us contented ourselves with looking at the historic aircraft, but at least one member found himself in the cockpit!

Given the poor weather, we were allowed to take over a section of the NAAFI to eat our packed lunches, which many of us supplemented with drinks and a variety of delicious treats from the canteen and shop.

It was a good outing and we’d all like to thank the staff and volunteers who made it possible.
